Women in Science at St Andrews: panel discussion on progress and future directions Panel discussion with four Principal's Office members to celebrate, inspire and promote Women in Science
Five years ago, University Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE, said: “In St Andrews, as in other UK higher education institutions, there are still fewer women the further you go up the academic tree. We are working to change that: through revisions to our promotions structures; through a new mentoring programme for senior women; through expansion of our childcare provision.”
Also five years ago, Women in Science at St Andrews (WISSA) was founded. WISSA supports self-identified women and non-binary people in science by providing a platform to interact and network. WISSA's emphasis is on creating a community comprised of all levels of research and teaching staff, from postdoc through to professor.
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the WISSA Network, WISSA will host a panel discussion with senior women in science at the University that will:
- feature four remarkable female leaders at our university
- celebrate the achievements of women in science at the University of St Andrews
- give the audience the opportunity to feed into ongoing practices.
Panel members will include Professor Clare Peddie, Vice-Principal Education (Proctor), Professor Ineke de Moortel, Master of the United College, Professor Monique MacKenzie, Vice-Principal (Digital Education, Research and Environment), and Dr Rebekah Widdowfield, Vice-Principal (People and Diversity).
The event is sponsored by WISSA and refreshments will be provided.
