School of Computer Science Seminar David Brosset - Study of Human Activities: from Experimentation to Analysis
David Brosset will present Study of Human Activities: from Experimentation to Analysis
Abstract: This presentation explores the study of human activities across both physical and digital environments, including urban mobility, cyberattacks, and network traffic analysis. Based on activity theory, it proposes a unified framework to describe activities through actors, objectives, and interactions.
The approach follows three main steps: data acquisition, modeling, and analysis. It combines diverse data sources such as interviews, honeypots, cyber-range simulations, and network traffic data to balance realism and experimental control.
The analysis leverages graph-based methods and information-theoretic measures to detect patterns, anomalies, and obfuscated activities within networks, with applications in cybersecurity and decision support.
Bio: David Brosset has been an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Arts et Métiers / École Navale since 2011 and currently leads the Chair of Cyberdefense of Naval Systems. He holds a PhD in Computer Science (2008) and earned the Habilitation (HDR) in 2022. His research focuses on cybersecurity and the cyber-resilience of maritime systems in the face of cyberattacks, with particular emphasis on the analysis of human activities for the detection of anomalies and cyberattacks.
He supervises PhD candidates within IRENAV and contributes to the development of training programs aimed at preparing the next generation of cyberdefense specialists. He is also involved in organizing the Unlock Your Brain Harden Your System conference, the westernmost security conference in France, and are a member of GDR Sécu (SSLR working group).
