School of Chemistry Colloquium: Dr Xenia Beyrich-Graf Innovation drives Transformation: The Role of R&D in BASF's Sustainability Transformation

Around 111,500 employees contribute to the BASF Group's success worldwide. Our business is divided into the Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions, Surface Technologies, Nutrition & Care and Agricultural Solutions segments. Our chemistry is used in almost all industries. Together with our customers we aim to overcome challenges that can be solved with chemistry. With our products and technologies, our innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and the power of our Verbund integration, we want to grow profitably and at the same time, create value for society and the environment. This is our goal: We create chemistry for a sustainable future.
In BASF we want to significantly reduce our CO2 emissions in the coming years and align our product portfolio even more strongly with climate protection and the circular economy. This includes using renewable energy and new production technologies, products based on renewable or recycled raw materials, products that close the loop, i.e. enable or improve recycling and products that increase resource efficiency or the longevity of materials.
Mastering the transformation towards sustainability requires innovations. Our innovative power is based on efficient research and development. The presentation will showcase recent innovation projects in chemistry, biochemistry and process engineering and explain how BASF's R&D drives the transformation by developing new sustainable products and new technologies.
