Postgraduate Researcher Welcome and Induction

This Postgraduate Researcher Welcome and Induction will introduce new on-campus research postgraduate (PGR) students to some of the staff who are there to support PGR students throughout their research degree and provide an opportunity to ask questions about aspects of policy, procedure and practice, as well as to meet and get to know some other new students.

The event will open with a welcome from the Provost, followed by short presentations about research support, ethics, careers and some of the other resources available to PGR students, such as research centres. You will also find out about our GradSkills sessions and have the opportunity to give feedback on what additional training sessions would be helpful.

The session is interactive, with opportunities to ask questions, and will end with lunch.

All new PGR students are expected to attend a PGR Welcome and Induction session in their first year. There will be a further Postgraduate Researcher Welcome in Semester 2 for those unable to attend this Semester 1 event. Details to follow.

This is an in-person event. An online Postgraduate Researcher Welcome event will take place on Thursday 8 October 2026, but you are not required to attend both the online and in-person event. Come to this event if you are in St Andrews, join the online event if you study remotely.
