Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Transformative Research Talk by Thomas Maiorana, Associate Professor of Design (University of California, Davis)

Interdisciplinary thinking can help us look at the world through an innovative lens, spark exciting and unexpected collaborations, and inspire research teams to explore their potential.

Associate Professor Thomas Maiorana will present new ways of thinking about interdisciplinary collaboration that can benefit interdisciplinary teams. Professor Maiorana will share methods for examining partnerships in ways that will help teams find the right types of collaborations for their particular challenges. He will share some initial findings from his work, lead an interactive experience and then follow the activity with a Q and A session.

This session will be of interest to all researchers and research management and support staff, but particularly to anyone who would like to learn more about interdisciplinarity, collaborative research, making new partnerships and teamwork.

Background:
Tom Maiorana is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design at UC Davis where he focuses on product design, design thinking, and prototyping. He is also a Fellow at the John Muir Institute and regularly teaches at Stanford University's d.school. Tom has an MFA in Design from Stanford University and a Bachelor of the Arts from Vassar College. His expertise is in Design Thinking, Prototyping, Product Development, Design Ethnography, Interaction Design, Prototyping Complex Systems, Entrepreneurship.
