Code to the crown An escape room experience

This escape room experience will take place in the Bell Pettigrew Museum of Natural History, using a theme inspired by Mary, Queen of Scots but focusing on the everyday lives of people in the 1500s.

The event will centre on spy and espionage activities, with participants working in groups to solve puzzles and challenges within a set time to ‘escape' the museum.

The escape room is designed for all ages, with staff present to provide assistance and supervision. This is a ticketed event, with groups charged to participate. Each week seven escape rooms will run, with morning and early evening slots available. A pay what you can charge will be in place with a range for participants to choose from.

This event forms part of War, destruction and reform: the early years of Mary, Queen of Scots, a public programme accompanying the exhibition on view at the Wardlaw Museum from Saturday 7 March to Sunday 20 September 2026.

A varied programme of events, including family events, accompanies the exhibition.
