Tree planting event -- Observatory Shelterbelt
This event has been cancelled
Join Transition St Andrews to diversify this existing woodland by planting a rich understory of native fruiting and flowering trees and shrubs. This will include rowan, with creamy white flowers in spring and bright clusters of berries in autumn, as well as wild cherry, English oak, silver birch and more, and the team will also include some Scots pine trees for the red squirrels that are regularly seen in the area.
The woodland has recently been thinned which will create openings allowing this succession planting to flourish. There are 420 saplings, gifted by Woodland Trust Scotland, so helpers would be greatly appreciated.
Meet at the Observatory car park at 1pm or drop in anytime throughout the event to plant a tree or two or more… See What3Words for the exact location.
Wear sturdy footwear and warm outdoor clothing. Gloves and tools will be provided, along with hot refreshments and biscuits.
