Uncovering Roman Carlisle Anna Giecco and Nick Henderson
Dig directors Anna Giecco and Nick Henderson will bring us up to date with the latest findings from Roman Carlisle.
Their long-running excavations have already uncovered evidence of a possible mansion, a substantial and well-equipped building provided by the government for the use of travelling officials, the most luxurious of which included bath houses, painted wall plaster and hypocaust systems.
New discoveries this year include a timber temple which was glazed and plastered, and an intriguing glimpse of possible river frontage activity, with finds including large quantities of amphorae and a small stone anchor.
