Ukraine Energy in the Spotlight Revisited: Nuclear Worlds

Join us online or in-person on October, 26, 5 pm (UK time) for an exciting discussion on the latest updates on Ukrainian nuclear energy. We will focus on the occupation of the Chornobyl nuclear plant, to dive deeper into the ethical dimension of the ‘peaceful atom' discussion, touch upon the increasing tensions surrounding Zaporizzhia Nuclear Plant, and the consequence and think about the future of nuclear energy in the precarious era of global tensions.

We will start off by presenting the artwork by Oleksiy Radynski and his exploration of Ukrainian nuclear landscape.

Dr Svitlana Matviyenko (Simon Fraser University) will talk about the consequences of the occupation of the Chornobyl powerplant by the Russian military in early 2022, and the overlooked case of colonialism the nuclear project in Ukrainian Polissia region presents.

We will also hear from Dr Jonathon Turnbull (University of Oxford) who will delve into the nuclear natures of Chernobyl, the ecological and ethical aspects of biodiversity surrounding powerplants.
