The Next Crisis: what we worry about, and why? Danny Dorling, Halford Mackinder Professor of Geography, University of Oxford

The greatest concerns worldwide, for the future of where we live, is not climate change and its impacts, is not extinction and loss of biodiversity, is not artificial intelligence or asteroids — none of these worries come close to what concerns us most. So, what is it people most worry about? Are they right to be concerned in this way and, if so, what should we be doing about the things that most concern the greatest numbers of us the most often?

Danny Dorling works in the School of Geography and the Environment at the University of Oxford. He has published on issues of housing, health, employment, education, wealth and poverty, including his recent books, Seven Children and Peak Injustice. In May 2025 his book The Next Crisis will be published. Danny is a patron of the road crash charity RoadPeace, of Heeley City Farm in Sheffield, and of the educational campaign group Comprehensive Future. In his spare time, he makes sandcastles.

This talk is free to attend and open to all. Refreshments will be served from 3.30 pm.
