The National Collection of Aerial Photography --- in Scotland, but of the World RACHEL NORDSTROM, Operations Manager, NCAP, Historic Environment Scotland - Members & students free. Or £3 suggested donation
Rachel Nordstom, Operations Manager at the National Collection of Aerial Photography will be exploring the potential of NCAPs vast collections for the archaeologist and researcher.
Part of NCAP's mission is to care for over 30 million military and survey photographs, including many from the Second World War, which hold immense potential for archaeological research and exploration. Recently, NCAP has introduced innovative tools like the Air Photo Finder, which is designed to provide unprecedented access to digitised aerial imagery, enabling researchers, including archaeologists, to uncover new insights into landscapes, heritage sites, and human history. In her talk, Rachel will share insights into the unique collections, where they've come from, what they are primarily used for. She will try and frame the capabilities, and limitations of aerial photography for archaeological exploration and demonstrate how NCAP is working to facilitate a new way to study and understand the past.
