A new story by Shirley McKay with music from the 16th century
Alexander Montgomerie (c1550-1598) was a soldier, a nobleman and a courtier who wrote poetry and lute song lyrics in the court of the young James VI. A favourite of the young king, his relationship with James soured when the King found himself unable to deliver a promised pension. Montgomerie's poetry explored his increasingly bitter sense of personal betrayal. This story of a fictional meeting in St Andrews between monarch and mentor explores how the argument might have been explored in an academic legal moot.
