Screening of 33 Days A Cinema Politica event
This Cinema Politica screening of 33 Days (Mai Masri, Lebanon, 2007) will be introduced by Dr Wassim Naboulsi, Associate Lecturer in International Relations and an expert in Middle Eastern Studies, who will host a discussion about the film after the screening.
Filmed during the massive Israeli attack on Lebanon in 2006, Masri's 33 Days chronicles the efforts of theatre director Sharif Abdunnur, graphic designer Sharif Bibi, journalist Fadia Baszzi and Mariam Al-Bassam, director of the news desk at New TV, as they try to provide emergency aid, report current news of the war and help children process the violence and destruction they see around them on a daily basis. At this moment, 33 Days is reminder of the devastating effects of war.
This screening is also organised in support of Raseef's mutual aid initiative, who have been offering around 750 Iftar meals daily to families forcibly displaced by Israel's latest assault on Lebanon. The screening is free but donations are encouraged. You can donate using the QR code on the poster on the event Instagram page.
The screening is a collaboration with St Andrews Societies MENA, STAMSA, PalSoc and Amnesty International St Andrews.
