Scottish Council on Global Affairs St Andrews University marks taking over chairship of Scotland's only international affairs think tank
St Andrews will mark taking over the chairship of the Scottish Council on Global Affairs (SCGA) with a talk by former Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD on ‘Looking at how nations like Scotland and Ireland can provide a hub for debate and discussion on international affairs'.
St Andrews assumed the chairship of SCGA from the University of Glasgow at the end of 2024. The organisation is led by Executive Director Dr Mateja Peter, Senior Lecturer in the School of International Relations, supported by a Management Committee tht includes Professor Juliet Kaarbo and Dr Adam Bower, and a Governing Board chaired by St Andrews Deputy Principal Professor Brad Mackay. At St Andrews, SCGA is supported by the Public Affairs team under the direction of Vice-Principal (Communications) Niall Scott.
The event will give audience members the chance to learn more about the work of SCGA, set up by the Universities of St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow in 2022 to provide a hub for research and policy informed, non-partisan debate on international relations and global politics. It is the only international relations think tank in the UK outside of London.
The event is for University of St Andrews students, staff and invited guests only.
Doors will open at 5pm for a 5.30pm start. Sign-ups will be checked upon arrival.
