School of Chemistry Colloquium: Prof. Daniel Schröder (TU Braunschweig) "Batteries, Electrolysis and Biofuel Synthesis - Gaining insight with Model-based and Operando Analysis"

Abstract: In this lecture, an overview on state-of-the-art operando techniques and simulation methods to assess the performance, life-time and unwanted reactions for electrochemical energy systems will be given. By elucidating three examples from the field of batteries, water electrolysis and biofuel synthesis, the benefits of using the combined approach will be elucidated. A systematic view on the reaction and transport processes is provided and yields a more detailed understanding of the underlying mechanisms, and helps to choose the optimal operating conditions for each system. The gained knowledge can be transferred to further next-generation electrochemical energy systems.
