Saints Talk: Dr Rory Cox Ethics of War: From the Ancient to the Modern World
Development are delighted to invite you to the next instalment in the Saints Talk series, from Dr Rory Cox on ‘Ethics of War: From the Ancient to the Modern World'.
Rory Cox is an expert on the ethics of war, history of violence, and intellectual history. His interests cover a broad chronological range, from ancient Egyptian just war doctrine, medieval military history, debates on the use of torture, and the history of terrorism.
His lecture will take the audience on a whistle-stop tour of how societies have engaged with questions about war and justice over time, and how many of the fundamental challenges remain to this day.
To join into a Microsoft Teams live event you will need:
- A computer/laptop or device like a phone, iPad or tablet which is connected to the internet
- A good internet connection
- an audio output element on your device so you can hear the speakers: you can check in your settings to see if your device has this.
To join an event:
- Click on the event link at the time of the event.
- A box will appear asking you to select whether you would like to join the event by an app or via the web.
a. To join by app: you will need to have downloaded the Microsoft Teams app already onto your device. If using your iPad or iPhone, download the Microsoft Teams app from the Apple app store. If you are using an android device, download the Microsoft Teams app from the Play Store.
b. To join by web: you will need to use Google Chrome as your browser. - If you have a Microsoft Teams account you can sign in or if you don't you can join without. If you're licensed for Microsoft Teams, click on the join link and it will open your normal Microsoft Teams client.
If you don't have a Microsoft account licensed for Microsoft Teams, or you're not sure if your account is licensed for Teams, please select ‘Join anonymously'.
You do not need a Microsoft Teams account to participate in these live events.
To avoid any unforeseen problems when you join the live event, you can test that you have access in advance: just click on the link and you should see a message saying ‘The live event has not started yet'. If you don't get this message, or you have any issues with accessing the event, please contact our IT helpdesk on 01334 463333, available until 6pm Monday to Friday.
