Saints Talk: Dr Laurence Lasselle The Challenge of 'Rural Deprivation' in the Fair Access to Higher Education Policy

Development is delighted to invite you to the next instalment in the Saints Talk series when Dr Laurence Lasselle will talk about The Challenge of ‘Rural Deprivation' in the Fair Access to Higher Education Policy. The event will take place via Microsoft Teams.

In 2014 the Scottish Government set a target for the 20 per cent most deprived communities to represent 20 per cent of all entrants to higher education by 2030. This has put pressure on universities to engage with schools in and recruit more students from these communities.

Dr Lasselle's recent and current research has a particular focus on widening participation and access to higher education for Scottish rural and remote communities. In this talk she will elaborate on why schools located in these specific communities could become overlooked within the context of the Scottish Government's target.

Dr Laurence Lasselle is Senior Lecturer at the University of St Andrews. She is a member of the Governance Group of the Scottish Framework for Fair Access and the link convener of Network 14, one of the networks of the European Educational Research Association.
