Q&A with Dr Glenda Cooper, Reader in Journalism Studies at City St George's Facilitated by Professor Zinnie Harris

Less tech, more human: how live journalism can help amplify marginalised voices.

What if the future of journalism wasn't AI but face to face? The new field of ‘live journalism' (where news stories are performed for an audience using techniques from theatre) can break down barriers between reporters, editors, and audiences. In letting people speak for themselves – in person – it also has the potential to reach and amplify the voices of marginalised audiences that traditional media doesn't. Dr Glenda Cooper, co-director of News on Stage and Contemporary Narratives Labs explores how recent projects in Glasgow, Nottingham and London broke the traditional journalist-source-audience barrier, and the real-life impact that can have.
