Epigenetics at the apex of innate immune memory Joint guest seminar with Professor Musa Mhlanga

Professor Musa Mhlanga will present an in-person seminar on Epigenetics at the apex of innate immune memory in this guest seminar jointly organised by the School of Medicine Cellular Medicine and Infection and Global Health Divisions.

Musa Mhlanga PhD is a Professor at Radboud University and Radboud University Medical Center, and a member of the Departments of Internal Medicine and Human Genetics. His research investigates how the epigenome and the three-dimensional architecture of the genome encode memory in cells, with particular emphasis on long noncoding RNAs as regulators of genome organization and gene expression.

Using the innate immune system as a model, his lab studies how progenitor cells acquire and retain inflammatory and trained-immune states, integrating single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, multi-omics, and advanced imaging in translational models of disease. He trained at the Rockefeller University and received his PhD from New York University School of Medicine. He trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute Pasteur in Paris as a US National Science Foundation fellow. He is a scientific founder of two biotech companies and a SAB member of the DRFZ and WCI, as well as a board member of the Human Cell Atlas, where he co-chairs the Equity Working Group and is a member of the Organizing Committee.
