Professor Dame Anne Glover CBE BSc PhD FRS: Why evidence matters St Leonard's College 50th Anniversary Lecture
University students and staff, and the general public, are all welcome to attend what will be a compelling lecture by Dame Anne Glover, titled ‘Why Evidence Matters', which forms part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of St Leonard's College.
Professor Dame Anne Glover CBE BSc PhD FRS is a distinguished biologist and academic who has made significant contributions to science and policy. She was the first Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission (2012 to 2015) and the first Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland (2006 to 2011). She became a Woman of Outstanding Achievement in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) in 2008. In 2009, she was awarded a CBE by the Queen in recognition of her services to environmental sciences and, in 2015, she became a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to science in the UK and Europe.
She is currently a Special Advisor to the Principal at the University of Strathclyde and President of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society.
In her lecture, Dame Anne will be drawing from her extensive experience to explore the critical role of evidence in intelligent decision making and policy formulation, providing invaluable insights on the intersection of science, policy and society. She will discuss how evidence-based approaches can lead to more effective and sustainable outcomes, and how knowledge can be used to transform lives.
The event will be introduced by the Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE and will include a question and answer (Q&A) session led by the Provost of St Leonard's College, Professor Frank Lorenz Müller.
