Plenary Panel: Academic Writing in Practice

Moderator: Nicholas Barnes
Panelists: Shambhawi Tripathi, Muireann O'Dwyer, Rahul Rao, and Tony Lang

* This informal 45-minute panel will focus on the practices and processes surrounding our writing.
* Each of the panelists will first describe when, where, and how they write before reflecting on their process as a whole. Where do their best ideas come from? Is writing a solitary or more communal experience for them? What are their anxieties when it comes to writing and how they have learned to deal with them?
* Overall, we hope this discussion provokes a series of reflections about our writing practices as a community and how we might learn from, collaborate, and better appreciate each other's writing processes.

Methods Roundtables

* The Methods Café is an opportunity for PGRs at all stages of their studies to discuss, exchange, and gain insights on a variety of methods relevant to their research, writing, and fieldwork.
* There will be 10 roundtables, facilitated by one or more discussants from staff in the School of IR who will share their experiences using and teaching a variety of methods.
* Attendees will be welcome to drop in and move between any roundtable based on what they find most relevant to their research and fieldwork.
* The methods and themes covered include: Arts & visuals/Archives/Writing and Integrating Theory/Quantitative/Qualitative/Ethnography/Discourse Analysis/Mixed Methods/Ethics/ Feminist, postcolonial, queer methods
