Politics, history, law: an afternoon of discussion on queer and trans rights Out Laws film screening and talk by Dennis Altman

Join an afternoon of discussion on LGBTQ+ justice with visiting Australian gay rights activist and writer, Dennis Altman. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Centre for Art and Politics and the Centre for Global Law and Governance, will include a screening of the documentary Out Laws, which follows the struggles of three global South queer activists.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dennis Altman, the film maker James Lewis, and other guests, moderated by Rahul Rao.

• 4.30pm to 6pm: Dennis Altman presents ‘Queer Rights in an Age of Autocracy'

The son of Jewish refugees, author Dennis Altman first caught the public's eye with the publication of his book Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation in 1972. Recent books are Death in the Sauna and Righting My World.

Altman is Vice-Chancellor's Fellow at LaTrobe University in Melbourne. He was President of the AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific from 2001 to 2005 and was listed by The Bulletin as one of the 100 most influential Australians ever. He is Patron of the Australian Queer Archives and the Pride Foundation.
