Online Speaker Series with Amee Ritchie -- S'Wheat with the Entrepreneurship Centre - Free
Join us for this week's Speaker Series talk where we will be joined by Amee Ritchie of S'Wheat.
Amee Ritchie, 24 years old, is the co-founder of S'wheat. The S'wheat bottle is the world's first reusable bottle made from plant-based materials, founded in 2018 alongside co-founder/partner Jake Elliott-Hook. Amee and Jake started S'wheat when studying — Amee Beauty Therapy at Edinburgh College and Jake Psychology & Sociology at Queen Margaret Uni — after seeing the amount of single use plastic bottles that were being discarded by students at lunch.
At this time there were some reusable water bottles on the market, however, after some research, they discovered that consumers were not using these due to a few key issues — the bottles were either heavy, easily broken or very difficult to clean. This led Amee and Jake to create a reusable bottle that was practically designed, truly sustainable and gave back to the planet. Starting up in 2018 with no money — only student loans and no experience or knowledge of how to run a business — it took two and a half years of development, product design and learning to create a brand before S'Wheat was born.
A successful pre-sale crowfunding campaign with the goal of raising £10,000 actually raised £22,000, which opened up many doors for the brand, including appearances on a Channel 4 TV show, and multiple collaboration opportunities.
