MT173 Research and Party Mathematics and Statistics research conference

If you are interested in learning more about mathematical research, the School of Mathematics and Statistics is hosting MT173 Research And Party to give you the opportunity to see what the world of academia is like.

MT173 is a St Andrews research conference event open to all students and staff in Mathematics and Statistics. It is running for the first time this month since 2018. It will feature short talks about research topics from Honours Undergraduates and PhD students who have completed some mathematical research. Research staff will also be present to talk informally about research during the interval. The event offers students the opportunity to experience an in-house research conference and strengthen competitive research project applications, PhD applications or postdoc applications.

In case you were wondering — this is certainly not a maths module! The “17” represents the date, and the “3” refers to the start time.

The conference will consist of two 60-minute blocks of lightning talks in the Observatory Seminar Room. There will be a 30-minute interval of (lots of) pizza and refreshments on the Observatory lawn at half-time (around 4pm) to allow those unable to attend one block to join the other.
