Memory, Forgetting, and Fiction Dr Avishek Parui (IIT Madras, India)
In this talk Dr Avishek Parui will aim to offer a theoretical study of the unique relevance of fiction while examining the entanglement of memory and forgetting in psychological as well as shared/social situations. It will situate memory as an emergent as well as a connective activity, drawing on the works of Andrew Hoskins, and highlight how the medium of fiction, which may be read as representational as well as anticipatory in quality, is specially suited to articulate the interplay of encoding and erasure through complex forms of focalisation and absences.
