Honorary Professor of Woodwind and one of Europe's foremost clarinettists, Maximiliano Martín curates a programme including music by Mozart, Rossini and Saint-Saëns, whose late bassoon sonata is contrasted with the Tarantelle for clarinet and flute, a piece which won its composer fame thanks to Rossini passing it off in a Parisian salon as his own…In the second half, music by Poulenc and Widor are paired with an impassioned evocation of illness and unrequited love: the extraordinary Trio Pathetique by the young Mikhail Glinka.
