Working with the media: translating academic knowledge for wider audiences Masterclass with Jenny Mathers, University of Aberystwyth
Universities and funding bodies increasingly expect researchers to engage in knowledge exchange and to work with stakeholders to increase the impact of their research outside the academy. Working with the media can form part of a knowledge exchange and impact strategy, raising the profile of your research (and you, as a researcher) and leading to further opportunities to work with a range of institutions and actors.
Speaking to journalists about your research can be exciting but also a bit scary. What should you expect if you are approached by the media and asked to give an interview? What steps can you take to make your research more visible to journalists and increase your chances of being noticed?
In this masterclass, Dr Jenny Mathers of the Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University draws on her experiences of working with the media, including more than 300 interviews about Russia's war in Ukraine, to offer some practical suggestions and interactive exercises.
This is for ISWS PhDs and MLitts but if other PhDs and MLitts in International Relations wish to join in, please email Alexandra Kerr at [email protected].
