Malcolm Jeeves Lecture: Professor Gaia Scerif
We are very pleased to invite you to this year's Malcolm Jeeves Lecture by Professor Gaia Scerif, titled ‘The interplay between attention, memory and learning: Insights from developmental cognitive neuroscience'.
This annual lecture honours the outstanding contributions of Emeritus Professor Malcolm Jeeves, who was the Foundation Professor of Psychology at St Andrews and established the School in its current form in 1969. Over the years, the lecture has featured renowned speakers from the fields of psychology and neuroscience.
We are delighted to welcome Professor Gaia Scerif as this year's distinguished speaker. Professor Scerif is a Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the development of attentional control and its neural correlates, with particular interest in understanding attentional difficulties and their impact on learning. She collaborates with neurodivergent communities and individuals with developmental conditions such as fragile X syndrome, Williams syndrome, Down syndrome, and ADHD, making significant contributions to both basic neuroscience and the lives of those affected by these conditions.
In addition to her distinguished career, it is worth noting that Professor Scerif is a former St Andrews Psychology graduate. Her outstanding final year dissertation was later published in the journal Animal Behaviour.
As well as offering a fascinating talk, we hope the event will serve as a celebration of the end of the academic year. Following the lecture, we will be hosting a wine reception in the School foyer. If you plan to attend the reception, please send an email to the following address by the end of the week: [email protected].
