Launch of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Open Knowledge Network (EDI Network) EDI Network Launch - Free

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Open Knowledge Network (EDI Network for short!) is an interdisciplinary group of like-minded staff and students from across the University who are dedicated to ensuring that access to knowledge is open to all and reflects the diversity of knowledge in society. The initial focus for the Network will be Wikipedia and her sister projects. The Network seeks to address the challenge that although anyone can edit Wikipedia, not everyone does edit Wikipedia.

Therefore the Network will have three key aims:

  • Increase engagement with, and representation of, marginalised people and subjects, e.g., via edit-a-thons.
  • Work with partners to develop digital, data and information literacy through Wikimedia, e.g., via training for staff, students and external community partners.
  • Develop our capacity and profile as a leading organisation for open knowledge, e.g., via increasing the number of individuals involved in the Network who would be integrating Wiki projects into their research, teaching and public engagement/knowledge exchange practice.

The Network will formally launch on 1 April 2021 with events aimed at staff and postgraduate researchers, with subsequent event aimed at undergraduates during induction and Independent Learning weeks.
