La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice) Free

The Byre Theatre is hosting La Voix Humaine (The Human Voice) by Francis Poulenc, a free event open to staff and students of the University of St Andrews and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

This unique, collaborative, education-based concert performance in English is a translation of Poulenc's one-act opera. Set in St Andrews in 2022, the new libretto is based on work undertaken in the University's Translating French Opera module, and La Voix humaine is performed by students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, with pianist Matthew Gibson and soprano Amy Strachan.

The performance will be followed by a Q&A with Matthew Gibson , Amy Strachan, Julia Prest (module coordinator) and Tabitha Benton-Evans (student translator), chaired by Kally Lloyd-Jones, Joint Director
of the Byre.

To book a seat, please email [email protected] from your University or RCS email account. Strictly one seat per booking.

Please not that the opera includes an exploration of mental health issues.

Running time: 45 minutes plus Q&A
