JJ Valletta Memorial Lecture 2026 Miscommunications, misinterpretations and miscarriages of justice: statistical analysis of clusters of deaths in healthcare settings
Dr Amy Wilson is Lecturer in Industrial Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh and Chair of the Royal Statistical Society “Statistics and the Law” Section. Amy's research career began with a PhD on the modelling of cocaine traces on banknotes and her statistical research has continued to be impactful in a variety of fields including, of note for this talk: forensics, and the justice system.
Our annual ‘named' statistics lecture is in honour of former colleague JJ Valletta who died aged only 37 in October 2020. We mark the anniversary each year with a lecture on a topic that relates to JJ's life or work, or which otherwise would have fallen within his interests.
There will be refreshments in Mathematical Institute Room 1A after the lecture.
