Inclusive and sustainable futures for Scotland
This event has been cancelled
Our nation has a track record of global impact in addressing social and environmental problems, being one of the first countries to implement legally binding climate targets (Climate Change Act, 2009) and support those experiencing the negative impacts of climate change (Climate Justice Fund, 2022). Building on these achievements, the current government is developing a new Climate Change Plan, which aims to “seize the opportunities of net zero and deliver tangible benefits for people across Scotland”.
As climate advocates often remind us, however, these ambitions will fall flat if we do not embrace new ways of thinking — we need “system change, not climate change”. While the current agenda focuses on financial growth and technological solutions, this project spotlights cutting-edge ideas to invite you, as a voting member of the public, to imagine new ways to form a more flourishing society and planet. With the 2026 Scottish Parliament election forthcoming in May, there is an opportunity for fresh debate and new thinking by all parties.
The St Andrews Centre for Critical Sustainabilities (StACCS) and the Centre for Energy Ethics, working in collaboration with a team of 20 representatives of universities, museums and other public sector organisations across Scotland, will be hosting a panel discussion offering an opportunity to participate in a debate on how we can create more inclusive and sustainable futures for Scotland.
