Inaugural Lecture and Reception: Professor Clare Peddie

Professor Clare Peddie of the School of Biology will deliver her Inaugural Lecture on ‘Teaching Tropical Marine Biology in the Field -- Experiential Learning in Action'.

The experiential learning model explains how students learn new concepts through experience, reflection, conceptualisation and experimentation. Experiential learning is at the heart of biological teaching at St Andrews, both in the laboratory and in the field.

In this lecture, you will hear how these educational concepts inform the design of a field course in tropical marine biology. Students on this course experience the theory and practice of underwater research on coral reef ecosystems and develop the skills needed to become proficient underwater field biologists. Many of the graduates are now building their careers in marine research or in science communication or have become advocates of marine conservation initiatives across the world.

The lecture will be followed by a reception in Lower College Hall.

All welcome.
