Ensemble in Residence, the Fitzwilliam Quartet perform their annual concert at the opening of the Strings in String course. The concert opens with the suspenseful fourth quartet by Dmitri Shostakovich, whose music has been associated with the Fitzwilliams since their earliest days. English composer Liz Dilnot Johnson has also composed regularly for the quartet and the concert will feature the Scottish premiere of her fifth quartet, commissioned to mark the Fitzwilliams' 60th anniversary. In the second half, the quartet are joined by violist Sophie Renshaw in a performance of Mozart's third string quintet. This concert is always extremely popular so book early to avoid disappointment!
