Ensemble in Residence, the Fitzwilliam Quartet perform their annual concert at the opening of the Strings in Spring course. The concert opens with the suspenseful fourth quartet by Dmitri Shostakovich, whose music has been associated with the Fitzwilliams since their earliest days. English composer Liz Dilnot Johnson has composed regularly for the quartet and the concert will feature the Scottish premiere of her fifth quartet, commissioned by the Fitzwilliams. In the second half, the quartet is joined by violist Sophie Renshaw in a performance of Mozart's third string quintet.
