Fiction that gets Religion that gets Fiction A Conversation with Professor Randy Boyagoda (University of Toronto)
Join novelist and professor Randy Boyagoda (University of Toronto) and Dr Rebekah Lamb (Divinity, ITIA) in a session that explores the irreducibly religious features of two very different works of contemporary fiction. Via intensive close-readings of excerpts from each novel, we will consider how these writers reveal the fulness of human experience in modern secular settings: by imaginatively engaging with a religious tradition that is especially open to the intersection of the divine and human, transcendent and ordinary.
This session, hosted by ITIA (The Institute of Theology, Imagination, and the Arts), is open to undergraduate and post-graduate students. Registration is required due to limited seating.
The short selection of assigned readings will be circulated in advance to registrants.
