Feminism in Contemporary Syria Centre of Syrian Studies (CSS)

Speakers at this Centre of Syrian Studies (CSS) event include Ola Rifai, Birgit Poopuu, Omar Imady, Roua Al Taweel and Lina Al Hafez, with Discussant, Rahaf Al-Doughli, and Chair, Jasmine Gani.

Women's movements mushroomed in the post 2011 Syria and, like everything else, feminism in Syria seems to have undergone a radical change. In this period of major transitions, this panel critically examines the evolution of feminist thoughts and explores women's movements from different theoretical angles not limited to feminist theories.

The panel engages with multiple historical and contemporary expressions of feminism and women's agency in Syria, drawing from interdisciplinary approaches and a plurality of theoretical positions.
