English Visiting Speaker Seminar: Dr Logan Collignon Dr Logan Collignon, University of Sheffield

This talk by Dr Logan Collignon of the University of Sheffield is concerned with the function of names and re-naming, making reference to the theoretical work of Louis Althusser, Jacques Derrida, Anna Freud etc, to think about how names reach us and what occurs in the giving of names.

It is a critical-creative piece that takes as its starting point Dr Collignon's own name change, the conditions of existence that are bound up with names and which are sought to be discarded through the changing of names and the desire to exist differently.

It therefore interweaves personal reflections with theoretical writing, while discussing cultural texts such as The Count of Monte Christo and the X-Men movies that either deal with name changes generally or Dr Collignon's in particular.
