Energy Cafe Dr James Rae - Climate change: lessons from Earth's past for our future

By studying the fingerprints of climate change in the past, scientists are rapidly improving our understanding of what may happen in the future. In this Café I will discuss some of the most striking lessons provided by paleoclimatology – the science of past climates – about the ways our climate system works, including the rapid shifts in ocean circulation that punctuated the ice ages, major extinction events linked to ocean acidification, and the governing role of CO2 in climates both past and future.
