Energy Café: Large scale renewable energy investments in energy insecure regions. Why communities choose to resist

During this Energy Café, the centre's postdoctoral researcher Cornelia Helmcke will tie in her previous work on energy data justice in Colombia with her most recent investigation of energy security and democracy in the Outer Hebrides. Apart from facing very different realities, communities in rural Colombia and remote Scotland have at least one thing in common: Many have chosen to oppose large scale green investment projects on their lands despite the need for infrastructural development. The talk will provide some answers to why that is and what needs to change to guarantee the just transition to net zero.

Following Cornelia's presentation, please join us in the Old Burgh for refreshments.
