Energy Cafe -- Dr Pauline Destree Oil and Development: local content and corporate power in Ghana

The Centre for Energy Ethics invites you to join its next Energy café, hosted by Dr Pauline Destree, entitled Oil and Development: local content and corporate power in Ghana.

The discovery of oil often promises prosperity. But does oil bring about development? How do we measure the purported benefits of oil, and for whom?

Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in the newly established oil industry in Ghana, in this café, Dr Destree will discuss the challenges of ‘localising' the benefits of oil in a context of global petro-corporate power, and what this may mean for the development potential of oil — particularly for new producers at a time of energy transitions.
