Digital Inclusion WikiConnect (2nd intake)

Did you know that you have the power to shape the world's largest encyclopedia? Are you eager to develop new skills, share your expertise on Wikipedia, and actively combat digital poverty while making knowledge accessible to everyone?

With plenty of support, workshops, and hands-on guidance, this is your chance to plug knowledge gaps and address the issue of digital poverty. Whether you're a complete beginner or an expert, we invite you to join Digital Inclusion WikiConnect and make a real impact on digital inclusion and social equity.

As a special highlight, Freddie Quek, a global leader in digital inclusion and founder of the #joiningthedots initiative, will join us in person to share his insights on addressing digital poverty. Freddie's extensive work spans industries across the globe, and his efforts to close the digital divide have made a significant impact in the UK and beyond. This is a unique opportunity to hear directly from an expert who is helping shape national strategies on digital inclusion.

What is the project all about?

Digital Inclusion WikiConnect aims to foster collaboration between staff and students at the University of St Andrews by promoting inclusive practices and digital inclusion through the creation and editing of Wikipedia articles relevant to digital poverty and/or your area of expertise. By engaging participants in this event, we seek to increase student engagement, raise awareness about the importance of digital inclusion, particularly for marginalised communities, and celebrate good intergenerational practices within our University. It is supported by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Fund, School of Computer Science, CS EDI Committee, and SACHI, and led by the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in Open Knowledge Network (IDEA Network for short!)
Dates for your diary

We are now inviting staff and students to join our second cohort. We will kick off with an onsite Wiki Workshop on Thursday 24 October, followed by weekly online editing sessions supported by our EDI Engagement Facilitators at times convenient to the group. There will also be asynchronous resources available throughout to support your editing. The project will culminate in an onsite event on Wednesday 27 November to celebrate your achievements.

There are only limited spaces available for this pilot phase, and they will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. We will also have a waiting list in case spaces become available. To find out more about the benefits of taking part and to sign up, complete our sign up form , and we will be in touch if you have been awarded a space or are on our waiting list.

You do not need to be a wiki contributor already. We will support you every step of the way, from signing up as an editor to publishing your first article, and all the steps inbetween. You do not need to be an academic -- the event is open to all staff at the University, regardless of job family. For the purposes of this project, we will be allocating student places to PhD students.
