Cross Campus Conversations: Racism in Medicine and Humanities Workshop Maternal Care and Histories of Racism
This session, open to all students of all levels of study, will focus on maternal care and race. The workshop will be lead by Sarah Shemery (University of Edinburgh) and is funded by the St Andrews EDI project. The aim of the workshop series is to provide a space for Humanities, STEM and Medical students to come together to think about questions regarding race from different disciplinary perspectives.
Her research currently explores the lived experiences single parents who are refugees and asylum seekers and explores the complex intersections of birth, family dynamics, and social identity among single parents within these communities. Her work aims to illuminate the profound impacts of displacement and individual experiences of loneliness and racism to further understanding of how these factors shape and impact social integration.
