The Fitzwilliam String Quartet, one of the Music Centre's Ensembles in Residence, perform their annual concert at the opening of the Strings in Spring course which brings amateur string players together from all over the UK. Schubert's famed, haunting Death and the Maiden Quartet will be heard alongside a re-working of a Purcell Fantasy by former quartet member Marcus Barcham-Stevens and a Mozart quartet in which the composer is supposed to have evoked the labour pains of his wife Constanze whilst giving birth to their first child, Raimund.
