Art History Research Lecture: Professor Christopher S Wood 'Aby Warburg's Europe'

Join us for Professor Christopher S Wood Research Seminar on ‘Aby Warburg's Europe' and a wine reception afterwards at 79 North Street.

In 1926 Aby Warburg delivered a long lecture on a famous painting by Rembrandt, ‘The Oath of Claudius Civilis'. Late in life, and unexpectedly, Warburg had become obsessed with this painting. This talk interprets the episode in the context of Warburg's new-found and equally unexpected engagement with contemporary European politics.
