Write and sip: Celebrating Lunar New Year with Chinese calligraphy and tea
Organised by the School of Art History's EDI Committee with support from @79 Makerspace funding, this social event promotes diversity, inclusion and creativity, fostering cultural exchange and a sense of belonging.
Join us in welcoming the Year of the Horse with Fai Chun writing, Chinese tea and festive snacks. Staff and students are invited to share Lunar New Year traditions and experiences from their hometowns.
The event will feature a calligraphy demonstration by Takaaki Iwai, a fourth-year student with over ten years of experience in Japanese calligraphy, and Chinese student volunteers will guide participants in creating their own spring couplets using traditional ink, brushes and red paper.
Takaaki Iwai will also perform in Music and Japanese Calligraphy in the Laidlaw Music Centre's Stuart and Geraldine Mitchell Reading Room on Wednesday 18 February 2026 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
