Songs of Stolen Children: Daughters of Donbas An afternoon of music, discussion and conversations from Ukraine

Daughters of Donbas, led by the Ukrainian human rights activist, Marichka, will be performing in St Andrews as part of the group's Songs of Stolen Children tour.

The event, unlike their other musical performances in Scotland, will include discussion and conversations about what is happening on the ground in Ukraine in general and in Donbas in particular. Marichka will discuss how she has translated her experiences and the experiences of others into songs and music. The conversation will be moderated by the Canadian based music journalist, Danien Rosenberg. Deputy Head of the School or International Relations and Senior Lecturer in Collective Violence, Jeffrey Murer, will host the event with Principal Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE introducing the programme.

The performance is part of an ongoing series for the Centre for Art and Politics which explores the war in Ukraine through music, art, poetry, painting and other media not usually drawn upon to communicate the experience of conflict, but which may be the most human and human avenues of communicating these traumatic and harrowing events. These events with Ukrainian artists began in October 2022, the autumn after the invasion.

This event is co-hosted with the Centre for Global (Post)Socialisms, Southeast, Central and Eastern European Studies (GloPost), housed in the School of Modern Languages and is made possible through the Centre for Art and Politics with the generous support of the Alex Danchev Fund. Dee Danchev will be attending the event.
