SUMMARY:New Directions in Mediterranean Studies
DESCRIPTION:Mediterranean Studies is an increasingly popular sub-field of the humanities with the potential to connect a range of disciplines –  from classical studies, history and anthropology, to modern languages and literature.    But what kind of geographies do we invoke when we talk about the Mediterranean? This ‘New Directions’ seminar brings together the following scholars in French, Italian and Medieval Studies to explore this question:     	Ian Merkel (University of Leipzig): 'Fernand Braudel, Brazil, and the Empire of French Social Science'   	Claudio Fogu (University of California Santa Barbara): 'Mediterranean Imaginaries'   	Sharon Kinoshita (University of California Santa Cruz, Co-Director of the Mediterranean Seminar): 'Mediterranean Studies: Past, Present, and Future'    The event will be chaired by Valerie McGuire (St Andrews), who can be contacted for further information at vm54@st-andrews.ac.uk.
