SUMMARY:Will Globalization Be Different After Coronavirus?
DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Global Law and Governance presents a roundtable discussion - Will Globalization Be Different After Coronavirus? Dr Milan Babić – Maastricht University Dr Geoffrey Gertz – Brookings Institute Dr Folashadé Soulé-Kohndou – University of Oxford Moderator: Taylor St John – University of St Andrews The current form of economic globalization is a policy choice and other worlds are possible. Economic globalization as we knew it before the pandemic generated many discontents, among them increasing inequality and environmental damage. Does the pandemic, despite all the suffering and challenges it creates, also provide an opportunity to re-imagine economic globalization? If so, what might globalization look like in the future? This roundtable will examine the extent to which the pandemic is a reform opportunity, for whom and for what reforms. Panelists will discuss both international cooperation on economic issues and domestic policies related to economic globalization–and how both might emerge from coronavirus.
