SUMMARY:Responding to a Changing World: Daphne-Biliouri Grant and the story of CASA (Community Aid St Andrews)
DESCRIPTION:CEED is pleased to invite you to the inaugural talk of 'Start-up Stories: Making Things Happen', a new Enterprise Speaker Series brought to you by the Proctor's Office, which will be hosted live on Monday 28 September from 7pm to 8pm BST on the 'Enterprising St Andrews' Facebook Page. Throughout the semester, 'Start-up Stories' will bring you the inspirational and diverse journeys of founders of social and commercial enterprises. The first speaker in the series is Daphne Biliouri-Grant, founder of Community Aid St Andrews (CASA), a community group which organised an incredible response to the Covid-19 pandemic, powered by volunteers from the St Andrews, including healthcare professionals, representatives of key groups and community members. Daphne will talk about how an initiative like CASA promotes the implementation of a transformational change model, and how an idea/concept can be implemented on a local and national level. Daphne is an alumna of the University of St Andrews. She was the co-founder of a risk management consultancy advising on corporate governance, sustainability, political and reputational risk. Since exiting her company a year and a half ago, she has been volunteering as a trustee for a number of Scottish charities, engaging in two of her main passions: environment and social inequality. At the beginning of 2020 she founded the 'Sustainable St Andrews' initiative aimed at establishing a common sustainability strategy and sustainable practices within the community and the local businesses in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, in response to the pandemic in March 2020, she joined forces with a small group of concerned residents to establish CASA in order to provide support to the vulnerable members of the community. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/responding-to-a-changing-world-daphne-biliouri-grant-and-the-story-of-casa-community-aid-st-andrews/
